Project Mission

PeopleTech's Essential mission is to create an effective working infrastructure that integrates faculty, students with disabilities, and assistive technology and related teaching strategies that facilitate core effective instruction, including student assessment and evaluation. Focusing on core mathematics and science content, the project brings together faculty experts, researchers, and the disability community to create a toolbox of hardware, software, and effective strategies to teach students with disabilities.

PeopleTech uses the following two strategies to fulfill this fundamental mission:

Research & Development
Led by the Project Director, the Research and Development team is charged with researching, creating, and modifying software solutions that enable faculty and students to access mathematics and science content by using various computing tools. The team's primary goal is to make a variety of solution accessible by developing software, working with software manufacturers, or developing companion tools that provide effective access. The R&D team is also responsible for solutions related to accessible university-wide assessments such as the CUNY Proficiency Exam.
Faculty Team
Working closely with the project faculty, this team works to implement accessible solutions into various core math, science, and social science courses. Led by the Manager of Faculty Support, this team works to modify curricular material in order to make it accessible to students with sensory and/or learning disabilities. Some of the team activities include creating tactile diagrams, rewriting course exercises, and providing faculty support.
